Two Huntington men arrested in robbery

Police arrested two men this week for allegedly assaulting and

robbing a World War II veteran in a Union Bank parking lot at 4:30

a.m. on Veterans Day.

Curtis J. Hill and Jon K. McKinney, 21-year-old neighbors on Stark

Avenue in Huntington Beach, were arrested this week on suspicion of

robbing Cecil Warren, 77, who was attacked and robbed of his wallet,

cash and credit cards when he arrived for work on Nov. 11. Warren, a

25-year employee at the bank as a night maintenance worker, was on

the ground unconscious for about 30 minutes before a passerby found

him. He’s still at Hoag Hospital in critical condition with head

injuries, Capt. Dan Johnson said.

Hill and McKinney are in Huntington Beach City Jail on $250,000

bail each, Johnson said.

Hill was arrested at his home in the 7900 block on Friday, while

McKinney was arrested at his aunt’s house in Carson early Saturday

without incident, Johnson said.

Warren was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The incident remains under investigation, Johnson said.

Surf City bicyclist injured by drag racers

A bicyclist suffered multiple cuts and head injuries last week

when she was hit by a car driven by a teenager who was apparently

drag racing with another car on Goldenwest Avenue.

Lisa J. Thon, 44, of Huntington Beach, was taken to UCI Medical

Center after the 11:06 a.m. accident on Nov. 19 and released the next

day, investigator Tom Wood said.

A 17-year-old Huntington Beach resident driving the black 1990

Acura that struck Thon was taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall on

suspicion of reckless driving and driving without a license.

Officers estimate that the suspect was driving about 75 mph before

the car lost control, skidded to a stop and struck Thon, who was

northbound on her bicycle on the west side of the street, between

Yorktown Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.

Investigators impounded a car in Fountain Valley believed to have

been racing the Acura, but police aren’t releasing information on

that car or driver until they decide whether charges will be filed,

Lt. Janet Perez said.

Police are asking those who witnessed the accident to call Wood at

(714) 536-5670.
