NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors outscored the Monsoons of Lakewood, 22-3, in the second quarter en route to the nonleague victory Saturday at Newport Harbor.

Senior Malia Hohl led the Sailors (6-11) with seven points. Junior Christina O’Tousa and sophomore Lindsay Anderson scored six points each. Sophomore Katey Thompson led Newport Harbor with eight rebounds and four blcoks. She scored four points.

Junior Corinne Schnieders, who scored two points, grabbed seven rebounds.

Newport Harbor Coach Randy Larson said he liked the way his team bounced back from losing to Sunset League power Esperanza, 70-21, on Thursday.

The first-year coach did his best to help his players respond, as he began Saturday with some movitation for the Sailors.

“I put on the chalk board that this was a must-win game,” Larson said. “We finally got our press working. They were pretty big, but we had speed, so we pushed it up and ran a lot.”

The Sailors return to Sunset League play at Edison Tuesday at 7 p.m.
