Female says ‘gang member types’ forced her into car

A Costa Mesa female juvenile reported an attempted kidnapping on her person Saturday evening, police said.

The female called police about 6:41 p.m. and said she was grabbed by what she described as “gang member types” who shoved her into the car, indicating they planned on bringing her to Big Bear Mountain Resort.

The victim was able to escape when the vehicle slowed at Placentia and 18th streets, according to the police report.

Officials said they believed the act was potentially related to a gang initiation rite, but could not comment any further on the case, citing the ongoing investigation.

The victim’s name was not released.
