City seeks nominees for posthumous awards

The city of Costa Mesa has announced it will receive applications for its annual “Circle of Service” award, a posthumous acknowledgment of those who have contributed to the community.

Nominees must be deceased for a period of at least one year, have contributed seven years of community service to the city, and have been a resident of Costa Mesa for at least a decade, recreation coordinator Lindsay Cutrell said. Exceptions are made for those who also served overseas in the military.

“The last few years we haven’t had any nominees,” she said. “We’re really hoping to get some more this year.”

The last recipient was Costa Mesa Founding Father Bob M. Wilson, a three-term mayor who also sat on the city’s first planning commission, in 2005.

Those interested in nominating an individual may retrieve nomination forms at the city of Costa Mesa’s Recreation Division, on the third floor of 77 Fair Drive.

A check for the memorial plaque for $350, made payable to the city of Costa Mesa, must accompany the form.

Forms are due by 4:30 p.m. March 5.
