City suggests expanding small-dog part of Bark Park

Smaller dogs frequenting the TeWinkle Bark Park may get thrown a bone this week, pending a Parks and Recreation Commission decision that would expand the small-dog sections to provide better accommodations for them and their walkers.
According to a Parks and Recreation Commission agenda report, city staff also recommended further construction to meet with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The construction would make it easier for disabled people to take their dogs to the park.
Staff did not recommend another request submitted by the Bark Park Foundation, which included an expansion of the general dog area.
“The dog park people need more room, and we really should have a park that’s big enough to put a part of it aside for the grass to rejuvenate itself, as dogs are constantly urinating on it,” Parks and Recreation Commission President Robert Graham said.
The meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m. today, in the Council Chambers at 77 Fair St.
