The Travelers of Gulliver’s have donated 200 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to needy students in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.
Mike Kincaid, president of the charity organization, said this year’s amount of donated backpacks is double that of last year’s.
“[The Travelers of Gulliver’s] have a heart so large that they distribute these wonderful backpacks that the kids love to have,” said Jane Garland, the school district’s community services and child welfare director.
Kincaid said he chose to donate because of his three children who attend schools in the district. He said he also wanted to help the less-privileged families in the community.
“There are so many families living in their cars and apartment complexes in the Newport-Mesa area,” Kincaid said, adding that “we’re just doing what we can to help out and make everyone happy.”
