College Roundup: OCC women’s swim wins OEC title

Orange Empire Conference Championships

MISSION VIEJO — The Orange Coast College women’s team won the OEC title on Saturday at Saddleback College.

Anthony Iacopetti of OCC was named Coach of the Year.

Rebecca Aguilar won the 100-yard freestyle to highlight the Pirates in 51.76 seconds. Lexi Hill won the 200 butterfly in 2:13, a conference record.

Golden West College took home the men’s team title.

The OCC men finished in third.

Beach Invitational

NORWALK — For the second straight day, UC Irvine senior Mason Miller set a new school record in the shot put.

Miller recorded a mark of 58-10 1/4in Saturday’s Beach Invitational to finish fourth in the event at Cerritos College, eclipsing his 24-hour-old record of 58-5 1/4 that he posted at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday.

UCI’s Kyle Hubbard finished seventh in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday with a personal-best time of 52.76. He also recorded a PR in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.53 to place 12th. Oliver Pham placed 23rd in 15.03.

Mike Graf had a 13th-place finish of 156-7 in the javelin throw.

At the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday, sophomore Lloyd Sicard finished 10th overall (third collegian) in the 110-meter hurdles in 13.78. That time would have been a school record, but was wind-aided (+2.5).

The ‘Eaters return to action May 1-2, hosting the 21st adidas/Steve Scott Invitational.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Beach Invitational

NORWALK — UC Irvine freshman Persis William-Mensah turned in quite a day at the Beach Invitational Saturday at Cerritos College.

She recorded a time of 11.75 in the 100 meters to finish sixth overall out of 100 competitors in the event. That time would have been No. 2 in Anteater history, but the wind-aided limit of 2.0 (+2.1).

William-Mensah then registered the eighth-fastest time in the UCI record book in the 200 meters (24.48) to finish 14th of 120 entries.

Kaulyn Lee-McNeill placed fifth of 64 competitors in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.98 and Megan George finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.09.

Marisa McGinnis had a best mark of 133-4 to finish 16th in the javelin throw with Kelly Magana placing 25th at 113-7.

Ariel Cheng registered a season-best mark of 12-6 ¼ in the pole vault to finish 18th.

UCI hosts the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium May 1-2.
