West, who has referred to himself as ‘the Louis Vuitton don’ in songs, has been a frequent fixture at Vuitton shows, and this afternoon was sitting front row with a Cheshire cat grin, snapping pictures of the crowd, the clothes and especially the red leather and suede calfskin sneakers embossed with a subtle LV monogram along the edge.
‘Overwhelming,’ was how West described his feelings at seeing his handiwork on the Vuitton runway. ‘I’ve wanted to be a fashion designer my entire life,’ he told me. ‘And to see my stuff in the Vuitton show was something else. It was a dream come true.’
‘And the way those guys were styled -- they were dressed better than me!’ he said, looking down at his own ensemble of slightly faded jeans, white shirt, navy blue jacket with white contrast taping at the lapels and cuffs, and a long knit scarf that perfectly matched the shoes.
The show featured only a single style of sneaker from the collaboration, which rolls out to Louis Vuitton stores in June 2009.
The first of two looks featuring the sneakers has been posted above.
