Yefim Bronfman injures finger, withdraws from L.A. Phil concerts

Pianist Yefim Bronfman has cancelled his appearances this month with the Los Angeles Philharmonic because he has fractured a finger, the orchestra said. Bronfman was scheduled to appear Thursday to Saturday at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The Russian-born pianist was to perform Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The orchestra said the piece will be replaced with Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe Suite No. 2.

Bronfman was also scheduled to perform the same piece with the L.A. Phil in Santa Barbara on Sunday. As with the Disney Hall concerts, the orchestra has substituted Ravel for Bartók.

It remains unclear how Bronfman’s injury will affect his future schedule. The pianist was expected to perform later this month in Boston, the U.K. and Spain.

Bronfman has been a regular at Walt Disney Hall, having collaborated a number of times with former music director Esa-Pekka Salonen. His most recent appearances at Disney Hall include an April concert and a solo recital in March.
