PHOENIX -- The question begged for a stock answer.
As Arizona Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt spoke with the media after practice today, a reporter asked how the field conditions might affect the Cardinals’ strategy at home, as opposed to what could have been a road game in the Northeast. The forecast, after all, is for 75 degrees and sunshine here Sunday, nothing like the 29 degrees and cloudy conditions expected in New York.
You expected Whisenhunt to offer a generic comment about how it would be easier for both teams to throw the ball without cold, wind, rain or snow, but he wouldn’t even go that far. In a non-answer that would have made a politician proud, Whisenhunt talked for a while about the comfort factor in not having to play on the road.
The reporter followed up, rephrasing his question and asking again how the Cardinals’ strategy -- the X’s and O’s, he said -- might be affected by playing here.
‘That’s a good question,’ Whisenhunt said.
‘So you did answer my question,’ the reporter said.
‘I did,’ Whisenhunt said.
He’ll provide the answer on the field Sunday, when the Cardinals play the Eagles in the NFC championship game.
