In a game that featured few bright spots for the Kings, they tried ending the second period on a high note.
In a 4-on-3 power play, center Jarret Stoll gave a no-look pass to right winger Alexander Frolov, who one-timed it at 19:17 to reduce the Coyotes’ lead to 4-2.
Aside from two power play goals, including a 5-on-4 power play where center Anze Kopitar scored off a rebound, the Kings struggled in a game that highlighted Phoenix’s speed.
Phoenix scored its fourth goal after 15 shots, and the Coyotes and Kings each finished with 22 shots after two periods. The Kings are 16-of-39 on faceoffs.
The Coyotes scored their third goal at 8:22 when center Daniel Winnik legally tipped in a shot from defenseman Zbynek Michalek. Phoenix’s fourth goal at 14:08 happened when a shot from right Radim Vrbata’s hit the chest of Kings goalie Jonathan Quick’s before going past him into the net.
