A week after a 2-year-old fell to his death at Staples Center after a Lakers game, a similar tragedy occurred during the Chicago Bears-Philadelphia Eagles game Sunday in Chicago.
Stuart Haverty, 23, of suburban Woodstock was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after falling from a ledge at Soldier Field, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
According to witnesses, Haverty ran to the ledge and jumped. Chicago Fire Chief Joe Roccasalva said Haverty landed on a small rooftop on the outside of the stadium.
[Updated at 1:47 p.m.: Police would neither confirm nor deny the witness reports. Soldier Field spokesman Luca Serra called Haverty’s death ‘a tragic, unfortunate accident.’
[For the record at 1:47 p.m.: A previous version of this post gave the victim’s name as Stewart Haverty. Family members say his first name was spelled Stuart.]
