Angels Manager Mike Scioscia, who used 30 different lineups in his team’s first 40 games, wrote out another odd one Sunday, moving struggling Peter Bourjos into the leadoff spot, starting Reggie Willits in left and using Maicer Izturis as the designated hitter.
Bourjos is hitless is his last nine at-bats and is hitting .130 in his last 22 at-bats. He’s also fourth in the American League in strikeouts with 43.
On the other end of the spectrum, Erick Aybar is riding a career-high 12-game hitting streak and Izturis is batting a league-best .397 on the road. The Angels as a team are doing far better away from home, hitting .295 and averaging two more runs a game.
