Crespi junior running back Jeremiah McKibbins scored on a one-yard run with 3:18 to play to put the finishing touches on a 23-3 victory over host Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in a Serra League finale
Friday night.
With their first victory over Notre Dame since 1993, the Celts (8-2, 3-0) won the Serra League championship and earned the No. 1 seed from the league for the Southern Section Pac-5 playoffs that begin next week. Playoff pairings will be announced Sunday by the section office.
Notre Dame (8-2, 2-1), the defending league champion, will be the league’s second-place --and only other -- representative to the playoffs.
The Knights, however, may have to play without star quarterback Dayne Crist, who, according to school officials, suffered a concussion in the second quarter against Crespi.
Crist, who has committed to the University of Notre Dame, spent the rest of Friday’s game standing on the sideline.
