Cross country: Hasay keeps racking up the honors

For the second consecutive year, San Luis Obispo Mission Prep standout Jordan Hasay was named the Gatorade California girls cross-country runner of the year on Thursday.

Hasay, who competed in the 1,500 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials last July, captured her fourth state cross-country division title last fall and also won the Mt. SAC Invitational for the fourth time. In addition, she recently won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships, becoming the first runner to win four Foot Locker cross-country regional titles. Incredible.

The 5-foot-4 future Olympian (I think it’s pretty safe to say that Hasay will be spending the summer of 2012 in London) isn’t just about blazing trails, though. She also has a 4.53 grade-point average and has volunteered for a number of special causes and charities, including the Special Olympics.

With the honor, Hasay becomes a finalist for the Gatorade national girls’ cross-country runner of the year award, which will be announced later this month. And based on her performances last fall, I’d be shocked if Hasay doesn’t take home the national honor.

Here’s a video of Hasay talking about her experience at the Olympic Trials:
