Osborne Computer will emerge from Chapter 11.

The Fremont, Calif., maker of personal computers said it will emerge from bankruptcy court protection Jan. 18. The one-time high-flying company, which in the spring of 1981 introduced the first portable computer, filed to reorganize on Sept. 13, 1983. Approval of the company’s reorganization plan by the Bankruptcy Court in San Francisco clears the way for Osborne to complete a limited public stock offering to raise $3 million. In November, the company introduced two portables--the Vixen and the Osborne 3--which the company says are now being shipped.
