A man arrested in the beating death of a physician is also a suspect in the recent fatal bludgeoning of a physics lecturer and the near-fatal beating of a medical student, Davis police said. Jeffrey Gerard Jones, 25, who was free on $10,000 bail after pleading innocent by reason of insanity in a Davis robbery, was arrested shortly after Dr. Michael Corbett, 35, was found severely beaten in a men’s restroom at the University of California teaching hospital in Sacramento on Tuesday. Corbett later died, and police said the slaying was similar to that of Fred Morris, 34, a UC Davis physics lecturer, who was found dead in a campus men’s room last Friday--and to Monday’s beating of third-year medical student John Rowland, 31.
