The firm previously stated its intention to establish a reserve for pending and future claims related to the Dalkon Shield, an intrauterine birth-control device formerly marketed by the company. Senior Vice President G. E. R. Stiles, the company’s chief financial officer, stressed that the amount of the reserve, to be charged against income for 1984, has not yet been established.
