Flu, Pneumonia Deaths Increase Across Nation

ATLANTA — The national Centers for Disease Control said Thursday that 790 influenza and pneumonia deaths were reported in the nation’s major cities for the week ending Jan. 26, compared to 778 for the previous week and 517 for the final week of December.
Health departments in 38 states, including California, have reported outbreaks of flu, the CDC said.
