Jose Lopez, 36, whose wife and daughter perished when fire swept through the family’s Anaheim apartment Jan. 11, died at UCI Medical Center, where he was being treated for burns and smoke inhalation he suffered in the blaze. Lopez had escaped the flames by leaping from a second-story balcony. The bodies of his wife, Rosa, 24, and their 4-year-old daughter, Josie, were found on the same balcony. Lopez’s brother, Boris, and his wife, Lucy, escaped from the apartment unharmed. The fire was started when gas fumes from a motorcycle parked in the apartment living room were ignited by a kitchen stove.
