Eusebio Pedroza successfully defended his World Boxing Assn. featherweight title Saturday at Panama City with a 15-round unanimous decision over fellow Panamanian Jorge Lujan.
Pedroza, in defending his title for the 19th time--more than any current champion--pounded his challenger with a strong, consistent left jab and was in control for most of the bout between the 127-pounders.
Lujan, 29, came on strong in the third round with a two-handed attack that made Pedroza back up, but during the rest of the fight the challenger was on the defensive. Lujan was knocked down for a three count in the 14th round.
The referee and two judges gave Pedroza the fight, 146-141, 148-139 and 147-140.
Pedroza, 31, improved his record to 38-3-1. Lujan is 27-8.
Victor Callejas retained his World Boxing Assn. junior-featherweight title with a bruising, 15-round unanimous decision at San Juan, Puerto Rico, over top-ranked challenger Seung Hoon Lee of South Korea.
Callejas, who knocked Lee down in the second round but was reeling in the 11th, improved his record to 19-1-1, while Lee slipped to 33-5-1. Both fighters, each 23 years old and with 17 knockouts, weighed 121 pounds.
