Sheriff’s investigators have identified the man who fell to his death Sunday from a cliff near Dana Point Harbor as Frank Celis,q 34, of San Clemente.
Investigators said Monday that they had not yet concluded whether the death was accidental or suicide.
“Witnesses said there was no one near him (when he fell),” said Sheriff’s Lt. Bob Kemmis. “Friends said he had been very depressed that day. No note was found. There were no indications of loose soil or the cliff giving away.”
Kemmis said Celis had gone to Dana Point with three friends. They had urged him to climb down to the beach with them, but he stayed at the top of the cliff.
A coroner’s spokesman said Celis was divorced.
He said a determination of whether the death was an accident or suicide would not be made until Celis’ blood is analyzed for drugs and alcohol.
