ATLANTA — A federal appeals court today granted an indefinite stay of execution to Carl Ray Songer, who had been scheduled to die Wednesday morning in Florida’s electric chair for gunning down a state trooper.
In granting the delay, the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals voted 11 to 0 to have the entire court hear Songer’s appeal. A three-judge panel heard arguments in the case Monday and granted a 24-hour reprieve. No time was set for the hearing.
