Stanton Girl, 7, Killed by Auto

A 7-year-old Stanton girl who ran into the street to retrieve some school papers was struck by a car and fatally injured, police said Wednesday.
Marla Hernandez, died at UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she had been flown by helicopter Tuesday, police said.
Officer Carl Wolford said the accident occurred in the 8400 block of Cerritos Avenue in Stanton about 3 p.m.
Witnesses said the girl was trying to retrieve some schoolwork she had dropped when she was struck. Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was flown to the hospital, where she died two hours later.
The driver has not been cited, but the accident is under investigation, police said.
