Kennedy High won its 69th league game in a row but Coach Craig Raub is more concerned about Friday’s game against Chatsworth. Kennedy routed Cleveland, 79-40, in a Valley 4-A game Wednesday afternoon to extend the string.
The Golden Cougars are 9-0 in the league this season and are 17-4 overall. Cleveland is 8-5 for the season and 5-4 in the league. Kennedy clinched the championship with the victory.
“We’re not thinking much about the streak. It was just the result of lucky bounces over the years. We’re thinking about Chatsworth and the playoffs. If we’re fortunate enough to keep it intact, then maybe we’ll look back on it.”
Kennedy was led by 6-0 sophomore center Diane DeCree. She finished with 27 points and 17 rebounds. Stacey Parsons had 23 points, 5 steals and 5 assists.
The Golden Cougars raced out to a 12-0 lead before Cleveland scored its only basket of the first quarter. The period ended with Kennedy leading, 19-2.
Friday, the Golden Cougars will be looking to beat Chatsworth for its 70th straight game, a streak that goes back seven years. Kennedy beat Chatsworth, 72-34, earlier this season.
