DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Sweden’s Stefan Edberg upset top-seeded Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia 6-4, 7-6 today to advance into the quarterfinals of the $1.8-million Lipton International Players Championships.
With Lendl out, this inaugural tournament has lost its top eight seeds in the men’s singles as well as any chance of becoming a glamour event. Neither Jimmy Connors nor John McEnroe entered the two-week play.
