A $5-million damage suit has been filed by the family of a stabbing victim who they say died for lack of timely treatment. The suit involved 32-year-old Eugene Barnes, who, according to the suit, lay in Brookside Hospital’s emergency room for four hours Jan. 28 before he was sent to San Francisco General Hospital where he died three days later. The claim, asking punitive and exemplary damages, was filed in Contra Costa County Superior Court. Hospital attorney Colin Coffy said he would have no comment. The victim had been stabbed at a Richmond hotel. Brookside is in nearby San Pablo.
