Mater Dei High School, attempting to become the first county team to finish the regular season undefeated since Corona del Mar in 1976, is the top-ranked team in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. prep basketball poll.
Corona del Mar compiled a 25-0 record nine years ago but was upset by Muir, 59-49, in the first round of the playoffs.
In the featured game of the week, eighth-ranked Kennedy (18-4) plays host to seventh-ranked El Dorado (19-3) for the Empire League title at 7:30 Friday night.
