A federal grand jury in Anchorage indicted California drifter John Robert Altig, 58, for allegedly taking to Alaska for immoral purposes a 5-year-old girl believed to be Elvia Vasquez, the Los Angeles child abducted from a Venice park when she was only 18 months old. Altig earlier pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree child sexual abuse filed by Alaska authorities. The girl was taken from Altig on Jan. 25 after residents of a trailer park became suspicious that she was not really his daughter. She was reported doing well with a foster family in Anchorage while undergoing blood typing and other tests to confirm her identity.
