Group Seeks to Draw Students to School
A Studio City parent group that is trying to revive local enrollment at Carpenter Avenue Elementary School will meet to discuss ways to bolster school programs at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 3909 Carpenter Ave.
The group, Parents for Carpenter, has formed subcommittees on school improvement, student recruitment, publicity and fund-raising. In addition, parents are exploring the possibility of establishing a preschool and day-care facility at the school.
Carpenter, Studio City’s only public grammar school, has 595 students, only 146 of whom are from the community. Others are bused in from crowded schools in other parts of the city.
The parents hope to attract students who are enrolled in private schools, a spokesman for the group said.
