Jazz Disc Jockey Found Slain in L.A. Parking Lot

A man found murdered behind a doctor’s office in South-Central Los Angeles has been identified as popular jazz disc jockey Langley Patterson, 35, of station KLON-FM in Long Beach, police said today.
Los Angeles Police Detective Paul Mize, supervisor of the 77th Street Division’s homicide unit, said an area resident found Langley in a parking lot Tuesday behind the 7400 block of South Western Avenue. The disc jockey left the station at 11 p.m. Monday and was killed sometime between then and 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, when his body was found, the detective added.
“It appears he died from multiple stab wounds, and we feel he was killed at the scene,” Mize said.
Investigators found no identification on the victim, leading them to theorize that he may have been robbed before being killed. Mize’s burgundy 1983 Datsun was not found at the scene, and police have listed it as stolen.
KLON General Manager David Creagh said the 7 to 8 p.m. segment of Patterson’s show was the most listened-to show in the station’s history.
