COMSTOCK, Minn. — A spectacular fire visible for 35 miles across the snowy prairie swept through the Comstock Farmers Elevator, destroying 250,000 bushels of grain and causing damage estimated at more than $1 million.
Firefighters from nine communities answered the alarm Monday night in this northwestern Minnesota town and doused nearby bulk fuel tanks and a service station to avoid explosions. Three firefighters were injured, one seriously. The cause of the blaze had not been determined.
