College Baseball : Beck, Stankiewicz and Mota Play Big Roles as Fullerton Rips USC, 15-1

Cal State Fullerton used the combination of excellent hitting and pitching Tuesday night to defeat USC, 15-1, in nonconference baseball action.
Dion Beck was working on a one-hit shutout with two out in the ninth when USC got back-to-back singles to score a run. Beck (2-2) struck out 12 and walked one.
Alan Stankiewicz had two singles and a triple and drove in four runs to pace the Titans. His two-run, bases-loaded single in the first inning started the Fullerton attack. The Titans’ Jose Mota had three singles and a double and drove in two runs.
Fullerton had 20 hits off three Trojan pitchers. Brad Brink (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
Fullerton is 6-6, USC 6-4.
In other college baseball action:
Pepperdine 7, UC Irvine 5--Pepperdine came back from a 5-1 deficit to beat UCI at home Tuesday. The Anteaters were ahead by four runs going into the fourth inning when the Waves scored three runs. UCI had a 5-4 lead in the ninth. With with no outs, Pepperdine’s Brian Allen advanced on a fielder’s choice. Then Brian Sharkey drove in two runs on a sacrifice single. Pepperdine scored again on a force out in the ninth.
UCI was led by Brady Anderson, who was 2 for 5, and Adam Ging, who was 1 for 3. Pepperdine was led by Steve Kirkpatrick with two singles and Paul Faries, who was 3 for 6.
Pepperdine is 4-2-1 and UCI is 5-5-1. Mike Fetters (1-0) was the winning pitcher and Lanny Derose (0-1) took the loss.
