Bond Money OKd by Voters : Hearings to Begin on Toxic Cleanup Costs

Assemblywoman Sally Tanner (D-El Monte), who heads the Assembly Toxic Materials Committee, will open hearings at 1 p.m. today in Sacramento on the Deukmejian Administration’s plans for spending $100 million in bond money approved by voters last year for toxic waste cleanup.
The spending plan includes $800,000 to help clean up the BKK dump in West Covina, the Operating Industries Inc. dump in Monterey Park and ground water contamination throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
Tanner said her committee will examine how spending priorities are being established and what efforts are being made to require those responsible for toxic waste problems to pay the cleanup costs.
