A 19-year-old robbery suspect apparently committed suicide in his jail cell, San Fernando police said. On a routine check, Freddie Tobias, of San Fernando, was found hanging by the neck from a strand of cloth ripped off a blanket and tied to a bar in the cell, Sgt. Rico Castro said. Tobias had been arrested after being identified by the victim of a street robbery as one of his three assailants. Castro said Tobias was alone and seemed in good spirits shortly before his death.
