Rohr Industries Inc. said net income for the second fiscal quarter ended Feb. 3 increased to $11.7 million, from $9.2 million a year ago. But sales for the quarter fell slightly to $152.6 million, from $153.7 million a year earlier.

For the six months, net income increased to $23.2 million, from $17.5 million. Sales for the six-month period dropped to $301.9 million, from $310.6 million a year earlier.

The aerospace manufacturer’s backlog of unfilled orders increased to approximately $950 million from the previous quarter’s $900 million.

Blaming start-up costs related to its December acquisition of a new product line, San Marcos-based Decom Systems Inc. reported a net loss for its first quarter ended Dec. 28.

The $240,000 loss compares with net income of $76,000, or 3 cents per share, in the prior year’s first quarter. Net sales were down 29.4% to $1.7 million.
