Actor Found Stabbed to Death in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Actor David Huffman, 40, of Los Angeles was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a canyon in Balboa Park, a short distance from the Old Globe Theatre, where he had been starring in the current production of “Of Mice and Men.”
According to San Diego police, Huffman had been stabbed to death. There was no evidence of robbery, and there are no suspects in the slaying.
Police spokesmen said Huffman, who was to perform in “Of Mice and Men” Wednesday evening, had visited the Old Globe Theatre between 12:30 and 1 p.m. Wednesday. His body was discovered at 1:09 p.m. in a narrow crevice off a park nature trail by a group of schoolchildren on a field trip.
Huffman is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and two sons. He had appeared in numerous stage and screen productions, including “The Shadow Box” at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, as Elliot Roosevelt in the TV movie “Eleanor and Franklin” and in supporting roles in the motion pictures “Firefox,” “F.I.S.T.” and “The Onion Field.” He had the lead role in the horror film “Blood Beach” and was slated to begin production next week on a TV miniseries, “The Blue and the Gray.”
