Santa Monica Approves Site Plan for City Airport Reorganization

The Santa Monica City Council on Tuesday approved a site plan for Reorganizing the Santa Monica Airport.
The plans are the result of an agreement the city signed with the Federal Aviation Administration in January, 1984, that keeps the airport open until 2015 and allows the city to implement a noise mitigation program.
The plan calls for moving three airplane fuel providers from the south side of the airportto the north side. The runways will be repaved and new drainage systems and runway lights will be installed.
Other changes include a road that will be built around the perimeter of the airport, new entrances, a new administration building on the south side of the airport, and the demolition of two old wooden hangars.
