ARCADIA — Five candidates are vying Tuesday for two vacancies on the five-member board of the Arcadia Unified School District.
Seeking the four-year terms in the 7,280-student district are Robert C. Harris, a stockbroker; Mary E. Dougherty, a housewife; David R. Strauss, director of a nonprofit organization; Bill Spuck, an engineering manager at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Marilyn Miller Perkins, a teacher in El Monte.
All are first-time candidates, a district spokesman said. Incumbents Carol D. Papay and Donald E. Fickas decided not to seek reelection, Papay after eight years on the board and Fickas after 13, the spokesman said.
The district operates six elementary schools, three junior high schools, one high school and one continuation high school.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
