Countywide : Hotel-Homes Project Backed by Supervisors
- Share via
A combined residential and commercial project that would include a 300-room hotel and 236 homes on 64 acres overlooking Upper Newport Bay has been endorsed by the county Board of Supervisors.
The development, proposed by the J. M. Peters Co., would replace the vacant Bayview Elementary School. The site, near John Wayne Airport, is at Bristol Street and Jamboree Road in Santa Ana Heights.
The project involves offices, 148 single-family homes, 88 town homes and the hotel.
The development still faces an uphill battle at the state Coastal Commission, which recently rejected the overall plan for the Santa Ana Heights area. The commission objected to a new road that county planners say is needed to relieve traffic congestion on Bristol Street and the Corona del Mar Freeway.
County officials are considering alternatives to the road, which would cut across small pieces of at least 17 large residential lots in the neighborhood.
