LONDON — The English-language service of the popular music station Radio Luxembourg has signed an agreement to broadcast a weekly program of British hit records to China, a station spokesman said here.
The station has signed an agreement to provide 13 two-hour programs to a state-run station in Guangdong province and is currently preparing the first broadcast.
“The agreement was concluded with the agreement of the Chinese minister of radio and television. We will be reaching a potential audience of 61 million,” the spokesman said.
He said Radio Luxembourg had hired a Cantonese-speaking disc jockey to explain the lyrics of the songs and provide insights into Western life where necessary.
