Three Los Angeles police officers named in an assault and battery lawsuit will not be defended by the city, the City Council decided after a long closed-door session. Juvenile Division narcotics investigators Dixon Tew, Alejandro Rosales and David McGowan allegedly beat the plaintiff, Jose Banos, last September because they thought Banos had stolen Tew’s pickup truck. The officers, who are still on duty after disciplinary action against Tew and McGowan, are also facing felony assault charges. A pretrial court date has been set for June 14.
