Nigerian border authorities moved to speed up the departure of 700,000 illegal aliens, who have been ordered to leave Nigeria by Friday. Departing aliens, mostly from Ghana, Niger and Togo, are to be processed in groups to avoid delays. In the sprawling Lagos slum of Ijora, hundreds of Ghanaians boarded trucks for the trip home. Other aliens took ships or planes. Nigerians view foreigners as a threat to their jobs, now that the oil boom is over.
