The Soviet Union plans to file a formal protest with the Pakistani government over the reported deaths of 12 Soviet soldiers in and explosion at an Afghan guerrilla camp near the Pakistani city of Peshawar. The Soviet ambassador to Pakistan, Vitaly Smirnov, said he had proof that two dozen Soviet and Afghan soldiers, held prisoner at the camp captured and then blew up the freshly stocked arms depot rather than surrender to guerrillas. The Islamabad government has denied that there were any Soviet prisoners at the camp.
