Family Service of Long Beach, a community counseling and guidance center, will receive a $65,900 grant from the state Office of Criminal Justice Planning to develop ways of preventing and treating juvenile delinquency, the governor’s office announced.
The money is to be used for a project called Positive Alternative Youth Services, which is attempts to turn youths away from street crime, reduce the recidivism rate and help former delinquents find jobs.
Counselors at Family Service will use the grant for counseling, tutoring and career guidance, the governor’s office said.
