Hearing to Consider if Bush Should Vote in Texas or Maine

HOUSTON — A dispute challenging Vice President George Bush’s right to vote in Texas will be heard June 3, a spokesman for the county assessor’s office said Wednesday. The assessor’s office is in charge of voter registration rolls.
The hearing will focus on a complaint filed by state Rep. Clint Hackney who contends that Bush’s legal residence should be Maine, where he owns a house and pays taxes, rather than in Harris County.
Bush, who will send a representative to the hearing, has acknowledged that he and his wife sold their Houston home after he became vice president in 1981. But Bush said he continues to consider Harris County his legal residence for voting purposes.
