Sen. Jake Garn (R-Utah) predicted that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration will mount a successful rescue effort to save the $85-million Syncom communications satellite that failed during his space shuttle flight last month. Garn, who heads a Senate subcommittee overseeing the space agency budget, said in a speech to the National Press Club that NASA is already working on plans to either repair the satellite during a bold space walk or return it to Earth for refurbishment.
