Egyptian police dispersed several hundred anti-Israel demonstrators outside a synagogue in downtown Cairo, while 10 miles away Israel and Egypt held two sessions of high-level talks on improving their relations. Witnesses at the protest reported 40 arrests. Israeli delegation chief David Kimche described the talks as “very satisfactory . . . I think we drew a little bit nearer.” Egypt said only that the talks will continue today.
