Trolleys to Run in Santa Monica
The Santa Monica City Council has approved a proposal by a private company to run a “trackless trolley” in Santa Monica.
American Trolley Lines, which operates shuttles in Arizona and will start a system soon in Redondo Beach, has proposed a route in the downtown area.
The company will run two buses between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. and will charge 50 cents a ride. The trolleys are actually motorized vehicles with rubber tires but resemble Pacific Electric Railway cars. Each bus can carry about 30 people.
City Manager John Jalili said the trolley probably will begin operation in two to three months.
