A group of shareholders filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Beneficial Standard, President Joseph N. Mitchell and others, charging that they have received “unlawful profits” from the way the company’s liquidation was structured. The suit seeks unspecified damages and injunctive relief. A Beneficial Standard spokesman declined comment because he hadn’t seen the suit. Beneficial Standard has been liquidating itself for the last year following the sale of the heart of its business--Beneficial Standard Life Insurance and related subsidiaries--to CalFed. The dissolution was completed Wednesday.
